HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION

The Southern Flute Festival High School Competition is open to high school flutists whose age are not more than 19 years old. The competition will consist of only one live performance which will be held during the Southern Flute Festival on January 22nd, 2022. The Southern Flute Festival will provide a staff accompanist for the competition.

Competition applicants must apply by January 10th, 2022.

REPERTOIRE
* One solo piece (with or without piano accompaniment) of the applicant’s choice. The selection must be three to five minutes in length.

PRIZES
Winners of the High School Competition will be awarded the following prizes:

1st Place: $200 + $200 Scholarship to the International Flute Workshop 2022

2nd Place: $150 + $100 Scholarship to the International Flute Workshop 2022

3rd Place: $100 + $100 Scholarship to the International Flute Workshop 2022

YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION

The Southern Flute Festival Young Artist Competition is open to flutists who are age 32 or younger. A jury will select the finalists through a preliminary round based on recordings submitted with the application. Recordings must be unedited and pre-recorded piano accompaniment is acceptable. Up to six finalists will perform a live audition in Hattiesburg, MS on January 21st, 2022. The Southern Flute Festival will provide a staff accompanist for the competition. Finalists will be notified of their status by January 10th, 2022. Competition applicants must apply by January 3rd, 2022.

REPERTOIRE
Preliminary Round

Final Round 

– Prélude et Scherzo, Op. 35 by Henri Büsser (Schirmer)
– One solo piece (with or without piano accompaniment) of the applicant’s choice. The selection must be less than ten minutes in length.

PRIZES
Winners of the Young Artist Competition will be awarded the following prizes:

1st Place: $500 + $200 Scholarship to the International Flute Workshop 2022

2nd Place: $250 + $100 Scholarship to the International Flute Workshop 2022

3rd Place: $150 + $100 Scholarship to the International Flute Workshop 2022

MASTERCLASS COMPETITION

The Southern Flute Festival Masterclass Competition is open to flutists who are attending college or high school. A jury will select masterclass performers based on a recording submitted with the application. Recordings must be unedited and pre-recorded piano accompaniment is acceptable. Up to four winners will perform at the Masterclasses held on January 22nd, 2022. The Southern Flute Festival will provide a staff accompanist for the selected performers. Winners will be notified of their status by January 10th, 2022. Competition applicants must apply by January 3rd, 2022.

PRIZES
Winners of the Master Class Competition will be performing for Dr. Carla Rees.
